Hakuryuu’s Fate

About

Kija キジャ is the current white dragon, one of the four dragon warriors in Akatsuki no Yona. He possesses the blood of the white dragon generations before him, the power is held in his right arm. He was born and raised in a village deeply isolated in the woods, contributed to his headstrong, polite, naïve and sheltered personality. AnY was one of the first animes I ever got into, and seeing Kija for the first time as a nerdy 10 year old girl definitely rewired parts of my brain. Not to be corny, but it was love at first sight, I deeply admire his character and his perserverence throughout various struggles in his life.

Truly, Kija is the embodiment of a romantic fantasy—loyal, chivalrous, and heartbreakingly sweet. How could anyone not fall hopelessly for him?

Why Kija?

The first ever time I watched Akatsuki no Yona, I was crazy overwhelmed by all the hawt guys O_O and then I saw him and suddenly every other character didn't matter. I instantly knew he was my favorite in the series, even though he is not someone I would say is "my type". I am more into cocky 'edgelord-y' characters with some kind of god complex. Kija is the total opposite (lol) and I still fell for him. I would even go so far to say he is PEAK yume material. He’s that perfect mix of elegance, devotion, and just a hint of dramatic flair that makes every interaction feel like it’s straight out of a romance novel (I adore every part of this man). He is the very definition of a noble prince, exuding grace, refinement, and unwavering loyalty. Can't you just imagine his soft, snowy-white hair shimmering under the moonlight as he turns toward you, his blue eyes filled with adoration, and with a gentle yet confident gesture, he draws you into his embrace, his warmth surrounding you like a protective shield, offering both comfort and reassurance in hard times. Kija isn't just a warrior—he’s a protector, a man who would lay down everything for the one he loves. His touch? Tender yet strong, as if he’s holding something more precious than his own life. And the way he gets flustered? Watching him turn pink over the smallest things—like accidentally brushing hands—is a privilege. Admittedly, I am somewhat glad this man has been worshipped all his life (as he should be), because of the adorable innocence aspect of course; so when he actually gets close to people? He’s so easily flustered. Compliment him? He gets red. Hold his hand? He might just malfunction. It’s the kind of reaction that makes you want to tease him just to see how much cuter he can get. I am definetely into this kind of dynamic, just thinking about it makes my heart flutter!

Despite his inexperience, even when uncertainty creeps in, Kija refuses to let it show. He carries himself with unwavering resolve, always putting his duty before his fears. No matter the circumstances, he will push himself to the limit to shield those he holds dear. When his loved ones are in danger, his usual composed nature fades, revealing a more intense, almost fearsome side that few get to see. In those moments, he is relentless, fully embracing the power within him if it means ensuring their safety. (I find it quite hot honestly.) But Kija’s journey isn’t just about strength; it’s also about growth. Once bound by the rigid ideals of the dragon warrior’s destiny, he has slowly learned to open his heart to those beyond it, realizing that true bonds go beyond fate itself. Even though his life might have sounded nice, being pampered your whole life, it is not as easy as you might think. The isolation and the pressure of being the next white dragon have impacted him, even though he hides it. His childhood wasn't too great either, and the four long scars on his back can prove that. His father, the previous Hakuryuu, went into a jealous rage and ended up slashing his own son over the idea of his powers being taken from him by a successor. Despite this, Kija has no hesitation in letting others see his scars; instead, he wears them with pride as a testament to the devotion the dragon deities have to serve the Crimson King.
